Default Maint Req'd

The Maint Req'd light came on in my 03 Civic EX with 25,000 miles. I happend to be a mile from the dealer so i stopped by, they told me that it comes on every 10,000 miles to let you know it needs a maintenance package, of which I get my choice of a $200 or $450 package. I sure dont have money for the maint package right now, I was wondering if any of you guys have had similar thing happen or know how to turn the light off. Im new to hondas, just seems weird theyd turn a light on every 10,000 miles.

Thanks

usually the first thing to cause the light to come on is an oxygen sensor. Your dealer can clear the code out of your computer but it will come back on if there is still a problem. A common mistake is your fuel cap either wasn't put back on tight. If it is the fuel cap the light will shut itself off within a tank of gas.
