Need to know! I bought an engine and
THE TIMING BELT BROKE ON IT SO THE GUY SOLD IT TO ME FOR 200 BUCKS.
ITS A D15B7 OUT OF A 95 CIVIC DX.
I NEED TO KNOW IF THE PISTONS HIT THE VALVES AND RUINED IT.
I SPUN THE MOTOR OVER BY HAND A BUNCH AND THERE WAS NO NOISES OR ANYTHING WAS REALLY SMOOTH.
LET ME KNOW ASAP!
thanks(:

Just because it spins freely doesn't mean the valves aren't bent. The only way you can know for sure is to pull the head off.
You bought an engine with a broken timing belt for $200? Sorry, but that's not a great deal. I'm selling my old D16y7 for $150 and it ran when pulled.

You can leakdown test the cylinders. Put a timing belt on and rotate the engine so the valves in the cylinder under test are closed. Apply air pressure through the spark plug hole and make sure it doesn't blow out through the intake or the exhaust. Or with a transmission and starter attached, you could compression test it out of the car.
