Default New member who also has a strange idle problem.......Sometimes

Hello all,

Well im a new guys here, my names mike.

I have a 2000 civic 5spd that I just bought about 2k miles ago from my cousin, it has 122k on it now. This car idles fine at first start up, starts up strong(1 week old battery), but when I drive it around and end up stopping at a light or stop sign, once that clutch is pressed in, the car has a low and slow week idle that makes it feel like a rough idle, like a coil wire popped off and is down a cylinder. The car on RARE occasion will stall, but will start right back up without issue. On somedays it will not do any of this, and on other days it will be a chore to keep running at a stop light or stop sign, you have to feather the throttle to keep it running, and other days it will idle as previously describede but will NOT stall at redlights......

Any ideas here?

The car did not ever do this to my cousin, I know he wouldnt hide this, he was almost to point of annoying me with telling me every little detail about this car before I bought it lol, and the car never did this the first month I had it, now its the second month, and the last 1k miles it does this.....

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.
Mike

Is the CEL ON? Does it work?

Remove the IACV from the throttle body and clean it (see link in my signature).

Mike, I would suggest you change the PCV valve on your car, along with a good IACV cleaning. I recently did this and it helped a lot.

Do you guys have any pointers or links on PCV cleaning? I'm noticing that the IACV cleaning didn't help mine...

Just replace the PCV valve. It'll only cost you $2 to $3. You can also just test the current one when it is removed. It should allow air flow in only one direction when you blow into each end.

I cleaned the IAC valve this evening, and took it for a 60 mile ride, and it runs like a champ. The car sounds "healthy" again, and doesn't stumble at stop signs, etc.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
