Odd car start issues
Hey all, I've been having some odd car starting issues for a while now, After the car sits for a while 2 or more hours ussally it takes must longer to start then ussual about 10-12 or so seconds but if I drive it park it then get back in say 20 mintues later it start no problem. I do have a CEL for my crank postion sensor which is stuck to my oil pan, lol I'm getting that fixed soon, I don't know if there is any other codes have not checked them in a month or so. Any ideas? think its the CPS? Thanks for any info!
Did you retrieve code 4 or 8 (Crankshaft position Sensor)? This sensor is in the distributor. If the sensor is bad, the entire distributor assembly must be replaced. Fixing this sensor problem has a good chance of fixing your intermittent starting problem.
Try clicking the key on for a couple of seconds but don't crank. This will start the fuel pump. Do that 2 or 3 times and then go to start, see if it starts right away. I suspect that the check valve in the pump is bad and letting the gas drain out of the lines back into the tank while parked. This is a situation you can just live with if you don't want to buy a new fuel pump.
