The first thing to check is the interlock switch on the clutch pedal. The rubber pad that presses the switch breaks and falls out and all of a sudden the car won't crank, though everything else powers up.
Look for loose rubber parts in the floorboard near the clutch.
Look for loose rubber parts in the floorboard near the clutch.
Get under the dash and look up at the pivot at the top of the clutch pedal arm. There's a switch there. (If equipped with factory cruise control there are two switches, the lower one is for the cruise don't mess with it). Unplug the switch and put a jumper wire between the pins of the plug on the car side. It should now crank and start when you turn the key. The downside of this is someone can start it in gear with the clutch out and the car will move inadvertently. So you should fix the switch.
Installation is merely to reach way up there and push it into the hole. The flat side goes toward the switch button. There is the same type of rubber piece on the brake pedal arm, you can look at it for reference.
