Default Rear arm causing issues ?

I am sure I am not the first to post this, but I am new to the forum.
Please indulge me.

Bought a 2007 Civic EX Sedan with 48K miles.
The original owner never took it to a Honda dealership. (mayday)
It had replacement tires put on at 28K.
I bought it last weekend and took it in to the Honda dealership today for an oil change.......NOT.

Had to get new "rear arms" $300 and new Good Year Eagle tires for $400
They did some "recall" work on the brake switch and rear bearing.
Todays vistit with the Rear Arms and Good Year tires was $900.
I love the car, I love they way it drives, handles, etc.

Anything else I should know about?
Can you you prepare me for the next price shock?
or am I good for a while?
God Forbid the GPS unit goes out.
I was thinking.....can a DVD player fit in the GPS slot? That would be bad ***!

I thought that the rear arms were sort of a recall, that if one were to pester Honda enough about tire wear issues they would put on the updated new ones for free.

Did the original owner at least change the oil regularly?

Yes the whole GPS thing can be pulled out and replaced with something aftermarket such as a DVD player. It's just a hole in the dashboard.
