rotor retaining screw...
I'm trying to replace my cap and rotor, but I can't get the rotor retaining screw out. The screwdriver keeps slipping, and if I press hard enough to keep it from slipping, it won't turn. I can't budge the screw. Is there anything I can put on it to loosen it up? Also, is there anywhere I can get another rotor retaining screw? Can I go to a hardware store and just match it up or do I have to get a certain one?
You should be able to just match up with something from the hardware store. Mine was a stubborn bitch to get out the first time too, just take your time and work at it. Is the dizzy still on the car?
Yeah sometimes they just take some working at it. Spray some WD-40 on it and if all else fails go to Lowes and buy an impact screwdriver. When you hit the back of the handle it turns, but you really shouldn't have to come to that. Good luck...
Yeah you will have to reset the timing. I mean, you could just make marks where the dizzy sits right now (one mark on each side of the flange), then you could just line it back up to that when you put it back on
But, unless you've got a timing light, you might not want to risk it

Yeah, I don't wanna risk it. I sprayed wd-40 on it, waited a few minutes, tried, nothing. sprayed more, waited, still nothing. The head just keeps getting worse. I sprayed more and am gonna run to the store real quick to wait, but I don't know if I want to try again. I'm worried I'll mess it up so bad I can't get it out.
