Default SRS light on need some info

Hi, my srs light came on my 2001 Civic (Canadian) and I tried to reset the computer as per the instructions on this site. I know it will reset because I get the 2 blinks of the light to show all codes have been reset but upon restart the light stays on. My problem is that the seat belt buckle on the drivers side has been giving me some trouble when you try to connect the belt so im almost positive this is where my problem lies. Can I just unhook the wires under the seat and reset the computer to see if im right or will the computer still set off the srs light when these wires are disconnected and will playing around with these wires trip the bag or is it safe ?
