What is the milage on your car? the less the better but I allways suggest a synthetic blend over full synthetic for a car that started out on conventional oil

You can switch back and forth any time you like. However, the common consensus is that if you have high miles on the vehicle then the synthetic is more likely to leak through seals that are marginal.
