Default New Member Needs Valve Cover Paint Help

Yo whats up guys? I own a 93' Civic Cx. 1.5L 16 valve, D15B7 engine.. Totally stock.

I kinda want to paint my valve cover. It aint a v-tech... I was gonna paint it red but was like...nahhh.. So I went to the next extreme.. I am going to either paint it Woodland Camo, or Winter camo.. I have already checked out the DIY thread.. but I have one question... What happens if you don't heat these things up in the oven and let them air dry? I don't have my own place, and I don't know how people would react if I asked to use their oven to heat up a valve cover.. Also.. you guys who have painted your valve covers.. Did you notice it flake not too long after?

thx

Welcome to the forum. First, it's vtec, not v-tech. Common mistake.

There's no reason to bake it in the oven unless you're using wrinkle paint. Air drying is fine. Just be sure you use high temperature paint.

Mine flaked a couple years later but I didn't really clear coat mine well.

I used engine high temp. paint enamel and it came out great, but yes make sure you get some self-etch primer it's works great!

Thanks guys.. I wasn't able to use self-etch.. From what I understand that is only to make a good clean surface for the first base coat of actual paint. I've already cleaned the cover and its smooth. Just gonna use high temp engine primer.

yes self-etch primer is money you will waste if that's all you use it on, any high temp paint will work fine.
