Plastic is cheap...that's why it was made that way. Boosted engines run hotter. Heat + plastic = cracks. Cracks = debris in the intake runners and leaks. So it can be done, but ummm....
dude hes talking about his stock airbox...that comes off when you install the turbo by charge piping from the intercooler (the aluminum pipe that your talking about.) You should do a lot more research before you turbo your car.
The D17 engine is not the best D series to boost. You must alter the fuel system too. They have a returnless fuel system, you need to make it into one that will return. The internals are the weakest of the D series motors too, Im not saying its not possible to boost it, but its going to cost much more as opposed to a different D series engine.
