d17 boosted with plastic intake manifold

ok I just realized my intake manifold is plastic is it possible to boost it and is it jus tas strong or weaker as a aluminum intake and why did they make them plastic

Plastic is cheap...that's why it was made that way. Boosted engines run hotter. Heat + plastic = cracks. Cracks = debris in the intake runners and leaks. So it can be done, but ummm....

dude hes talking about his stock airbox...that comes off when you install the turbo by charge piping from the intercooler (the aluminum pipe that your talking about.) You should do a lot more research before you turbo your car.

lol no no boys my actual intake manifold is plastic only the d17 have them I was told it cna only handle 3 psi of boost I was wondering if tha tis true

The D17 engine is not the best D series to boost. You must alter the fuel system too. They have a returnless fuel system, you need to make it into one that will return. The internals are the weakest of the D series motors too, Im not saying its not possible to boost it, but its going to cost much more as opposed to a different D series engine.

yeah i have been told that they need a fuel system upgrade. plus they need a sheet metal intake. wha tmake sthen weaker from other d-seriers engines?

sentra SER's have plastic intake manifold...guess how often they get engines replaced....

you could probably buy an aftermarket metal one and replace the plastic one.
