so confused...what direction to go in
I have been posting about motor swaps, doing mini me swaps and other things on my d16y7. now i am thinking do a turbo. i just dont know. i doubt the d16y7 on stock internals would hold up to a turbo kit. i have 180psi all around for compression minus one or 2 psi. but this is my daily driver. i want power too, and i like the bov, but dont want to get any more rice than my stupid car already is i want power to back it up, so please answer the following questions. is it safe to run a turbo on stock internals to what extent? i would buy a kit http://www.turbo-kits.com/96-00_civic_turbo_kits.htmlso one of these might do the trick? or any other suggestions? cheaper is better, but quality is important. i have also heard that i should not to a mini me swap if i am doing a turbo, just drop the turbo on, but i dont know if i should believe it. as it stands i have about 3 grand cdn for an entire turbo kit which i would use as a project to put on. also are the kits listed on the site everything and i mean everything i need to do the installation? hell i would even need directions, cause i dont trust my auto teacher worth shat
You could build your self a turbo kit for roughly $1000, if you look around. Your engine can handle it, it's just a matter how big of a turbo and what your boost controller...basicly there's a alot of research needed. Here's a good site to start off at, turbobygarret.com/turbobygarret/tech_center/tech_center.html
If I was to buy a kit I'd get a used greddy...they come up on ebay and craigslist a lot and can be had for under 1G...plus installation and tuningof course. The y7 can definitly handle it, you will need to upgrade injectors and might want a different intake manifold.
a y7 intake manfiold will choke your setup pretty bad, but you can easily push 160-170 on the block, its basically the same as a z6 or a y8 and it will handle up to 230 whp with headstuds, its just your intake manifold will sap your power on the y7 head..
just run 5 or 6 psi, you willl get around 160 whp and that will be enough to tare up most cars on the road... and a bov isnt rice lol, a bov will make people think just the opposite, turbos are respected, if i hear a bov i think, "that guys got power" not "that guys a ricer" lol...

ok, well first off what i meant was not a bov was rice, but i mentioned i like the sound of bov so i meant i didnt want to get a little turbo and try to have the loudest bov, although i like the sound i want to be able to kill sum beemers....and also the reason i am researching doing a kit is i dont know if i can do the fab work myself if i just piece it together, i havea shop to work in, but i wanted it simple, but i guess if it saves me a grand i will just build it myslef wit ha lot of research. so ppl, lets start a list, intercoolers injectors, lines, turbo (nothing huge, looking to run 8 psi for now and later down the road upgrade motor so i can to 12 psi), ecu chip?, do i need head studs for 8 psi or is it a good idea, lets price out a decent turbo set up for me, and i will post as i go step by step within a month of collecting these parts
