Default springs or coilovers?

couple questions
1. whats better between springs vs. coilovers? i heard coilovers can be more "bouncy" compared to straight springs
2. which setup is better for a 97-00 hatchback?

1) Coilovers would not create a bouncy suspension. That would be caused by lack of damping due to worn out or inadequate struts/shocks. Coilovers do, however, tend to have higher spring rates than standard coil springs, giving them a harsher ride. Note I said "tend"; there are exceptions to every rule.

2) There is no "better" setup; they both have pros and cons. For example, you can fine tune the ride height with coilovers as well as raise/lower the car for seasonal changes (ie, raising the car for winter). However, coilover setups tend to be more expensive than lowering springs. If you just want a moderately lowered car that won't be seeing much track time, I would think lowering springs and some beefier struts should do the trick.
