Default auto trans problem

I was driving my girlfriend's civic today, its an automatic and sometimes when accelerating from stop it will spike up to 5k rpm before shifting. also, when it does shift okay it sometimes feels like there is a weird hesitation. Anyone have any idea whats wrong, or how to fix it?

If The transmission needs to be replaced, would i just need to buy something like this and bolt it on? or is it a lot more complicated than it looks? any transmission form a D series engine should work right?

My dad's old truck did this and it turned out to be the PCV valve somehow.

And if it's the transmission, an HX transmission will only work on an HX Civic (I am pretty sure) because it's a CVT (continuously variable transmission) and has a slightly different gear selector. Also, I think an HX transmission will only work with an HX ECU, and you can't put an HX ECU in your car unless you have an HX engine, otherwise it'll run poorly.

thanks, I replaced the pcv valve and cleaned the iac valve, one of those things fixed the problem.

Default same situation

I had the same situation, slipping between 2nd and 3rd, and lagging. But when i got in it today, backed up, it popped and now will not engage the axles. The tranny engages but nothing to wheels. The axles are free moving now. Are the trannys chain driven? And if so, is there an easy way to access this chain? Its a 93 dx with a 1.5 by the way...

Glad to hear you fixed the problem, but I have no clue about how cleaning the IACV or replacing the PCV valve could possibly affect when the transmission shifts. Can someone explain this to me?

This makes sense because it's a sensor for the transmission. On the other hand, the PCV valve is an emissions device and the IACV controls idle speed. I just don't get it.

She was having problems with idle rpms (as am I), thats why I tried the iacv. I took her car for a drive right after i put in the new pcv valve, and it seemed fine, but I will ask her if its still driving bad when she gets home to make sure. Is there an easy way to test the TPS to see if it is not working properly?
