Default Loose shifting

I just bought a '92 Si hatch and the shifting seems to be loose. Is there a common problem, it has about 170,000, and is it easy to fix. It does not have a short shifter just the stock one.

It's probably the shifter dust seal B and the shifter ball seat, Honda part numbers 54115-SH3-000 (11 on diagram) and 54110-SH3-003 (8 on diagram), respectively. Replace those and use some white lithium grease while doing so, and your shifting should get a lot smoother. I had this problem and this fixed it.

Also what would help is getting polyurethane shifter bushings, which includes parts 10, 15, and 20 on the diagram (number 15 is two pieces in the kit, but it works the same). Doing this will also help a lot to smoothen out your shifting.

Tip: You have a choice of color... the black ones are better than the red ones because they contain graphite.

You may also consider all the small parts at the bottom of the shifter as they can wear down. These are parts #24 (4 of them total), #12 (1 total), #4 (2 total), and #5 (2 total).

Part numbers can be viewed here

All of the mentioned bushings are easy to replace.

The poly bushings definately helped mine. Cleaned up most of the slop.
