Default reverse gear problem

i have a 95 EX and about 90% of the time i put it into reverse, it'll make this loud scratching kinda sound when i put it into gear. after i put it into gear its fine. whenever i put it into anyother gear, it dosnt make that sound. only with reverse. i think its the clutch slipping but if it were, y isnt it doing it with the other gears? is this something i should be worried about and get check out? any help would be nice.

thanks!

That's just the synchros. Mine does that too. All you have to do is put it into 1st before you shift into reverse. It's a habit with me now. I dont' even think about it. Another solution would be, since you should put your car in gear when you park it, make that gear reverse.

i believe reverse is the only gear that doens't have synchro's on it in the transmission...u dont relaly need it though, cuz u should be completely stopped when goin into reverse anyways.

yeah, i panicked about that when i first got my Civ too, like ^they said just pop it in first before you hit reverse. Or, do what i did, and experiment with different speeds and angles when going into it, there IS a path/speed combination that works 99% of the time.

On most Civics, you can avoid it by just double pumping the clutch before you try to shift to reverse. But yes, please make sure you're completely stopped first.
