Default Shifter problem...

Hey everybody. I've got a '99 EX civic (5sp obviously) and got a slight problem. I've noticed there is a LOT of play in the shifter. Like, when it is any of the gears it almost feels like it is in neutral (thats a slight exaggeration, but its a lot). Is this normal for these year civic? Also, would a short shift kit help this problem? I dont have any actual problems with shifting, it just seems like something isnt quite right, like when you step on the gas or let off you can vicibly see the shifter move about an inch or so.

If anybody has any advice to give that would be GREAT!

thanks in advance, Evan

Yeah, that's pretty common in stock shifters. They use rubber bushings and longer shifters to mask vibration and that "notchy" mechanical feel that we all love becasue for some reason, not everybody wants a race car. A short shifetr will definitely help in that area along with some poly-urethane shifter bushings. You will swear your car has been reborn.
