Default Will this work ??

I currently have a 1994 Honda del sol S ..

I want to put a B16A Engine in it ....

First of , Is there ANY difference between the B16A1 B16A2 and B16A3 ... i thought the Gen 3 was OBD2 but i dont know of anydifference in gen 1 and 2 .. please help .

And also .. if i buy a B16A ... will the stock 5 spd tranny in my del sol bolt up or do i need a complete swap ??? i have the 1.5 SOHC del sol S .

Also is there any other Direct fit engine for a 94 Del sol ??

And Lastly Could i expect 220+ Horsepower With a B16A equiped with Cold air, Camshafts, Header , and exhaust ?? .

and thanks to everyones help in advance

The B16 is a great choice to put in your del sol. The A & A1 is obd0 from old school JDM civics. A2 is from JDM del sols and civics from the mid 90's, plus is found in the US 1999-2000 civic si, so I am not sure what obd that is. And the A3 if found in the US del sol vtec model so it is obd1. As far as direct fits the B16 would be the easiest plus it’s a great engine. With a little extra work you can get in B18's and H22's as well. As far a horsepower numbers, with those mods on a B16 I would expect 180-190 bhp, and that’s at the crank not the wheels.
[:@]Also I could be wrong with what cars the B16 engines are from so do some homework.

Great reply. theres a bit more to the differences, but youve got the main points.

the JDM A2 (which doesnt say "A2" it just says B16A, unless the importers stamped it on there.) has a bit more power due to slightly higher compression than the rest of the B16A family. the JDm second gen B16a has 168hp, whereas the rest have 160. gen 1 is non-US only, and is OBD0, the second gen is OBD1, and came in SIRIIs (again, non-US) until the 95 Del Sol Vtec which came with the B16a3, which has no dicernable difference to the A2. All of the US model A2s were OBD2. they came in the 96+ Del Sol Vtecs and 99-00 Civic Si's.

hey sacicons i like your Qoute .. and i agree the most "possible" horsepower per liter i know of is a RB26DETT engine ... which is insane ..

Anyway i was thinking about going with the B18C1 which is OBD1 which i need and is also a direct fit from what i've read ..
And i think the B18C will make my vehicle more Valueable because some Del sols came with the B16 .. and them alone are worth alot .. so a Del sol B18 .. well it would make me happy .. im just trin to get the last details in order before i .... order .. the B18C5 would be nice .. but its 4,500 and is OBD2 .. so its outa the question ... i am pretty sure i can stomp all over any Stocker around with a B18 as well .. 1400 pound car .. 180 horses LSD a 5spd and a decent driver .. makes for a scary fast car ... let alone if i build the motor later ... my R6 may no longer be the Fastest thing in the home if that happens .

But for now i think a B18C, 15inch wheels with decent tires , New synthedic Mounts all around and an Eiboech Pro suspension kit .. my car will be one hell of a Rice sleeper ..

What do you guys think ??

Sounds like a great plan Rhenerie, sacicons has a B18c1 in his civic and I'm sure that he can vouch for how sweet of and engine it is in his car as well.
