I towed my friends 1997 Honda Civic back to my house and I'm trying to diagnose why it won't start. It died while she was on her way down the freeway. It was a little low on oil but is no longer. The check engine light has been on for a long time due to a Cadillac converter issue. That light is on and now as well the oil light and the battery light are on. Battery is fully charged and turns over but the car will not start. I thought fuel pump or fuel filter but I can hear the fuel pump engaging when I turn the ignition. I've also read it could be a number of things from fuses to timing belt though timing belt doesn't make sense to me under this situation's conditions. I used the scanner which I will show in a picture and it read no codes even though I know when she took it to a mechanic it read the code for Cadillac converter. Is this scanner needing software that's not installed? Obviously the main question is figuring out what's wrong with the car but I'd also like to know why my scanner isn't working correctly and not pulling up codes? Thanks for any help you can offer.
