Default Cam gears

My car is most likely going away for the winter and im looking to do a mini me swap on my DX. I am looking into cam gears but does it pay to get diff. cam gears w/ out the new cam shafts? If i would get the diff. cam gears what are the different settings and what would i want to set it to?

With a stock it wouldn't do much. Setting it on single cam all depends on where you want the power. Advance the timing you will get more mid range power. Retard the timing you'll get more top end. On a single cam it isn't really going to give you much at all. Dual cams are great because most tuners advance the intake and retard the exhaust. So the combustion time is as long and complete as possible.

So when i do the mini me swap to the Y8 would it pay to swap in a diff cam gear or cam shaft cuz its still a sohc? Obviously i would need to do all the internals but do you think it would pay?

I had a Y8 block with a ported and polished Z6 head and a stage 1 cam. The only way that it would be really beneficial is if you went for a stage two cam and an upgraded valvetrain. Then the car gear would be worth it. Only buy a skunk2 or an AEM car gear, they are the good ones and aren't expensive.
