Scott's Ek Build: Shaved and Tucked
Got the stickers you sent Kenny, one of these days I will send some back. I am consistently busy with work and lazy, not a good combination.
Tore down my transmission today. It is actually a LOT easier than you'd expect, intimidating, but easy. It is amazing how simple manual transmission are, yet they are so complex. Looked over both stacks of gears, all the gears are in good condition, don't even look like they have 100k on them. A few syncros are a little mashed up... mostly from miss shifts on my part I assuming, I have ground it a few times. Found the bearing that is causing my problem. The main shaft bearing that is on the outside of the case is SHOT. All the ***** are deeply scratched, and as you can hear in the video it is loud just spinning it by hand, it shouldn't be that loud. Because that bearing took a dump, it caused the mainshaft bearing on the other side of the trans to not spin as smoothly as well. The countershaft bearings spin smooth and are well. And we inspected my differential bearings and it spins smooth, so we are unsure on why I had a leak. The tech I'm doing this with said I might as well replace the bearings while I have it out... but I don't really want to. It is $20 for one mainshaft bearing and $40 for the other. And it'll be another $60+ in diff bearings as well, so I am just going to put them back. Bearings will be ordered tomorrow as well as my fire wall plugs, it'll be next day shipping since our parts dept will put it as urgent. Most likely have the transmission back together next week!

It is sooo much easier than I expected. Honda trannys are so simple. Comes apart pretty easy... just have to get all the detent ***** out (3 bolts on the outside of the case with springs that hold the ***** for the shift forks), release the main shaft from the c clip, take off all the bolts around the case, and lift. Then you just have to take off a few things like reverse and then you just lift the main and countershaft straight up and out. Even if you have to take the gear stacks apart there's so many exploded schematics of the order of everything it is insanely easy. Since I work for Acura, I get Honda's guides and pictures and what not specific for my car.
Installing the bearings will be fun... heat up the case and it should fall out... then freeze the new bearings while heating up the case and quickly put the cold bearing in.

Good, good...glad USPS got it to you in a decent amount of time. And I don't care when you send somethin back...in fact don't worry about sending something until like sometime late next week since I won't be here at my dorm to pick it up
I'm gonna be back home.
And I second that transmission comment, way too over my head as of now lol

Nice... I want to be able to crack open a trans eventually down the road and work on everything. Scares me because everything is a moving part and I feel if one thing isn't installed 100% perfectly, everything will be destroyed.
Doing a trans is actually really easy. If anyone ever needs anything on how to do it I can help and I can also get the Honda's exact directions on how to do it, one of the many luxuries of working for Acura. I am following those with mine, and one of our head techs is giving me a hand with certain stuff and what to watch out for and such.
I ordered both input/main shaft bearings as well as firewall plugs Wednesday. Got them all at work today. $57 for both bearings, and then bought all the firewall plugs. Both for passenger side main harness and accessory harness, ac delete plug, and driver side main harness plugs.
Transmission will be back together most likely Monday or Tuesday. In the mean time I've been cleaning it up. The inside of the case is flawless, and I cleaned off as much corrosion off the outside with my new Matco die grinder as I could. Good enough for paint, got most of it off. Now I just need to clean up the other half of the case and the inside of that as well and I'll be ready for the bearings.

I'm flipping the brake booster too, so that the vacuum hose comes out of the bottom right of the booster instead of the top left. There was some corrosion going down the booster, my guess is brake fluid spilled down and ate some paint. So I sanded it back and repainted it black, looks new!

Looking good as always man.
Do you know the part number for the CC block off plug on the firewall by chance? I could never find it and bought one from a forum user. Well, recently, I wasn't thinking, pulled it out (tore it while pulling it out) and then lost it somewhere. I need to buyz a new one.
