Cracked manifold??

Cracked manifold??
I have a 1998 HX, which is about as sour as a lemon as one could get. I've fixed a ridiculous number of things on this car, and now, unsurprisingly, I have a new problem.
When first starting or accelerating from being stopped or slowed, the car seems to have trouble getting power, and even stalling on occasion. It also is blowing some pretty horrendous exhaust fumes through my vents. I had the same problem on an old Toyota, and it ended up being a ridiculously expensive cracked manifold fix. I'm thinking it may be the same thing here...
This happens with a full or less-than-half filled gas tank, the battery and alternator are both operating normally, the starter and transmission are relatively new...
Thoughts?

I had a 97 HX and I had to replaced the exhaust manifold. You have to remove the heat shield to check for cracks. Sometimes large exhaust leaks plays havoc on the O2 sensor which can make the engine run bad.
If you live in CA., you can't use aftermaket CATs.
