Before you buy a new distributor, try cleaning your distributor cap out. Mine had simular issues, and ended up just having oily junk in the cap. Make sure metal terminals on the cap and rotor are clean too.

I took the cap off and there was what looked like copper wire fragments and a little oil as well. I dont have the $200 for a new distributor what else can you suggest?

goto your local junk yard or on ebay and see if you can fnd a distributor, copper wire fragments is a bad thing thats why your motor is running like that and also the cel,

Can you take a clear picture of inside the cap and of the inside of the dizzy? I just wanna see what has broken and what could have caused it.

Glad to hear man. Glad to hear. Ever figure out what the hell the metal fragments were, and what they came from?

I can still feel a little sputter between 2,000 and 3,000 rpms and the check engine light is still on but then again i havent replaced the cap and rotor. Do you think i will need a new distributor soon. and i have no idea where the metal came from but they were just slivers of copper wiring inside the cap.

yeah man, you might end up needing a whole dizzy soon. If the metal fragments didn't come from the cap or rotor, it came from further within. =/
