ok I got it. Thank you for clearing that up.

Now...is it better to get the official honda timing belt and water pump..because my mechanic uses a different brand and gives me a 3 year warranty vs a 1 year warranty from honda. It's about 10 bucks cheaper to go with his brand.

Will you guys please read this thread and help me..I really need help...I'm in dire need of help with this issue..he's looking at my car WED and I want to get your guys input..I'm begging you guys..I'M BEGGING YOU..please read this thread and help me!

Well im kind of im the same dilemna as you as far as the brand of timing belt. I talked to the guy at NAPA and he says all their parts are OE quality or better and pretty much all reproduction parts are. Really when you buy a honda belt your paying for piece of mind.

Default timing bely

i have a 2003 civiv coupe.when i bought it new the owners manuel said to change the timing belt every 60 thousand miles but i had an honest dealership and they told me that it was revised to 110 thousand miles.so on my 2003 i had it changed at 110 thousand miles.i now have 200 thousand miles on it so i have another 20 thousand miles before i need another one.not all dealerships are honest.so make sure you trust your dealership.

This is the part where someone saids........

"You know this thread is 6 years old right?"

I believe bringing old threads back are beautiful. Because newer threads may not have all the info that older threads have, I mean....since we do have Civics that were made before 2005. :P

90,000 miles is the avg for timing belts btw, but it's ok to change it alittle before then.

Default Timing belt/ water pump

Every 60K miles the timing belt should be replaced with the water pump. They are both important to do.

To save money, buy the parts at you local autozone that will be around 70$ or less and then go to a mechanic and they can do it for 150$ or 200$ max.

Do not change them separate because this can really be a pain later because you will have to pay extra for the labor later on. do it together so you do not have to worry about it later

Also make sure your car doesn't make a rattling noise when you get your car back because then that means that the timing was done wrong.

The timing belt runs the water pump. The car is 12 years old so it's a good preventive measure to have the pump and maybe even the timing belt tensioner changed at the same time.
