Default 'Jumpy' downshifting? Normal or not?

2010 honda civic LE, automatic. As the car coasts to a halt from 2nd gear, I feel a slight (pretty damned slight, but still noticeable) jolt almost as if they brakes activate for a half second. I have noticed that this occurs once the gauge reaches the 1st gear notch, and as the 'jolt' ensues the gauge jumps from the 1st gear notch to the 1.5 notch (the one between 1st and 2nd on the meter). Assuming my lackluster description is clear enough, is this sensation normal?
I have looked around and it appears as though the Grade Logic Control could cause this while traversing a declined road. But should this sensation be present when coasting on flat ground? Again, the sensation is pretty minute, but I want to stay on top of any potential issues that may arise.
