Default Odd noises

Hey guys,

Been noticing two new noises my 03 si has developed.

1. At about 40 mph the right front side of my car starts to hum, its constant, and isnt affected by me putting the clutch in (I'm thinking its a wheel bearing?)
2. This morning when i started the car to go to work, i took the clutch out in neutral and noticed a buzzing, this stopped when i put the clutch in. It wasnt loud by any means, and could only hear it with the stereo off. The closest sound i could equate it to would be like change rattling (which there isnt any in my car).

Any ideas?

You might check the trans fluid levels to be sure there is the right amount in there. Trans take a beating and I tend to break them in Hondas. If all it does is make a litle noise then you are lucky. Hard shifting hurts the little things.

Buzz at 40 is perhaps tire, bearing or rotor related. Check bearing and swap tire to left to see if it moves or goes away.

Might be air related as in lose flap or plastic somethin that buzzes in the wind.

how much should a cat shield cost? how long can the rattling go on without it causing damage?

The noise that goes away when you push the clutch in is most likely from inside the transmission. Check the fluid level, if OK you can ignore the noise until it gets louder.

Rattling from the heat shield is usually loud enough to hear with the radio on unless it's turned way up. You can just let it rattle until you get tired of hearing it, there won't be any further damage.
