Someone said this in a previous post, any truth in this?

can anyone tell if its a VTEC by the engine code D16B2 and its a 1590cc 1.6 1998 iES

"Im goin to sleep so ill add some info for you...to tell if its vtec: the spark plugs will be at the front of the head and the oil cap will be at the back right, on a non vtec head the spark plugs are on the back and the oil cap is on the front left..also look for the vtec selionid on the head behind the dist.

also check the motor number: on a small flat surface on the left side (passenger side) of the block...you will see a flat surface that sticks out a little..you may need to clean it off to read the number

also what civic is it ex dx lx..ect?"

Also found this on a previous thread by kbeers, i think sometimes engine numbering is different over here in the UK than opposed to American Numbers. Still not too sure, im gona have a look on my engine toady and maybe take a photo n post it up.

My bad, brother. It's called a D15B in Japan, which is the D16 here. It is the SOHC Vtec; it's the direct replacement for the 1.6.

Yes the numbering is different on some but not all, infact most 92-00 civics numbering are the same here as in the states.
The D15B is jdm yes, over there it is found in a civic vti, uk vti's have the B16A2. Although similar to a D16 the D15B makes a couple more horses despite being smaller, due to higher compression and a more aggressive camshaft which lets it rev slightly higher. Both are v-tak.

ORIGINAL: land9

b-series engines have v-tec, d series engines are non v-tecs
That statement is entirely FALSE! Please research before posting. We don't need our members getting misinformed.
