Default whats up..need some advice

hey what up... i am planning on buying a 97 civic ex m/t and i am wondering what performance parts should i put in my car to give my car at least 200hp. i dunno whether i should just put a cai, headers, exhaust, pulleys, or cam gears, or just go with a little turbo. also, i want to know if anyone knows some sites where i can find inexpensive bosy kits, racing seats and other interior accessories. please help me. g1

Hey, even with all of the smaller bolt-ons, i.e. cai, headers, cam gear etc., you wont reach 200 whp. you would need to get a 62mm throttle body and a new intake manifold, and that would easily put you into the 200's. If you did all of that, it would definitely be cheaper than a turbo, unless you went homemade. As for websites, i like ebay. I got a drift body kit, cam gear, header, pulley kit, udp, cai, throttle body spacer for just under $700 on my 97 lx.

200WHP (wheel HP) is attainable with a small turbo (Greddy, Edelbrock or homegrown) running about 10PSI. That amount of boost will most likely require an intercooler, good fuel management, and a free-flowing exhaust but not necesasrily any changes to the engine internals (with careful tuning).

Attaining that kind of power without boost will probably require a lot of parts (many of 'em are mentioned in the previous posts) and also some headwork on a D16Y8 motor like the one that came in your EX.

Either method will be costly and unfortunately some of the parts (for example the exhaust header) won't be interchangeable if you decide to switch from one method to the other.

In my opinion: There are some beastly all-motor single-cam Hondas out there, but there are MORE beastly turbocharged ones out there. I'd go with the turbo.

hitting 200 whp with the single cam, boost is the only worthwhile way. unless youre on a mission to prove a point with a single-slammer, then boost it or drop in a dohc vtec motor. the useable and potential power of the dohc is worth the initial expense. you wont be able to get 200 whp out of the NA sohc without MAJOR internal work. maybe even a dohc turbo if you get really ambitious. hope you have more extra money than i do.

haha... Vortech makes a nice supercharger, but Im a bit biased... Forced Induction definately, maybe some nitrous on top of ALL those mods and money could get you there too.

i like roots type better than the centrifical (sp) all the dynos ive seen on the centrifical units were too peaky to justify putting a drag on the crank. i prefer a well sized turbo w/o the parasitic load on the crank and a little more usable power band. if i went sc, it would be roots all the way.
