From everything I've read the Honda fluid breaks down pretty quick, about 10k-15k miles. I used synthetic 5W-30 for a change, but decided that was too expensive. Regular 10W-30 is what I would reccomend.
they misinformed you then, i changed my tranny fluid at about 80,000 miles and the fluid that came out looked just as good, and had the same properties as the new honda fluid i filled it back up with.

And what 'properties' are those? Take it up with the Honda tranny god aka Transzex/Mista Bone/etc.

The "PROPERTIES" i'm talking about is the fact that it had the same color, texture, viscosity, etc. as the new fluid i poured right back in, so before you get mad, it's just a fact that your tranny fluid won't get "dirty" (unless you grind a lot of gears) because there's no combustion so no carbon and minimal breakdown, it's common sense, not rocket science, sorry if i triggered you but i'm just sharing what i know and see
