Thanks guys.

The bezels are unpainted black plastic, just like my front bumper cover, and grille. Eventually, everything will be the same color.

Ah okay well at least ur front end all matches as of now

Sorry, just being a smart @$$ but i make a good point. If i can find the bumpers, hood and rear hatch door in a pick-n-pull they probably wont be matching so my car will look a little ghetto for a while lol granted that wont be happening for a while but eventually it will

^^ Everything matches except for the hood and mirrors

Anyways, I started pricing out the D16 block build I want to do, and found out I will need about $2600 (including machine work). That price also includes a sweet-a$$ colored fuel rail, FPR, new fuel filter, spark plugs/wires, coolant, oil/filter etc etc etc.... as well as the $1000 (aiming high on this one) machine shop bill for boring, honing, cleaning the block and polishing/cleaning the crank.

I started pricing out everything else that I want to do with the car, not including the engine stuff, or paint, too. Jeez, I am bored right now... lol Price came to about $3000 (when including wheels/tires and a front camber kit), otherwise, I am looking at around $2000. I have already decided a while ago that wheels will be the last thing I buy.....unless someone has exactly what I am looking for at a good price.

Lastly, as I have stated before, paint/body work will be running me ~$2500 total.

Soo........ what would YOU do first? Motor, paint, everything else except wheels? I basically have the money available to complete one of the three..........

I should have mentioned why I am asking you guys....

For one, if I do paint, then I risk f@cking it up when getting the old motor out, new one in. Trust me, I am clumsy and forgetful and something, whether it be a scratch, dent, nick would probably happen.

If I do the motor first, I run a risk of running into issues and not having money to finish the rest in time (all swaps, even if the same motor would require little kinks to be worked out... as I said, I am clumsy and forgetful LOL).

If I do everything else I will want more power still , in addition to wanting my car to look good, but I will be keeping myself busy installing little things every night.

Thanks for the input sigracer.....anyone else have a thought?

I say Engine, everything else, paint, then wheels. That way its got the ***** (so to speak) first and then paint to make it look good, and then the wheels last.

Well, after thinking over pros and cons for each path, I will be getting the motor dealt with first.

In have a spare z6 head I am porting/cleaning out, so I should be able to use that, I believe I would need a distributor for the z6 (are they different other than the plugs?), and a conversion harness for the dist, correct? Either that or I will finish porting out the z6 head (about 30% done), sell it, and buy a y8 head to build up. But that is later down the road depending on a few things.

Regarding a block to build up, I should be picking up a y8 bottom end either by the end of the night tonight, or sometime this week hopefully.

I would be the loser to create phases for the motor build... lol

Phase #1 - Buy a Toga oil pump, D16a1 pistons, OEM water pump/t-belt/tensioner/fuel filter*, shotpeened rods/ARP bolts.

Phase #2 - Bring block to a shop to be machined/crank turned

Phase #3 - Spec everything out, order bearings/new spark plugs/wires/head gasket

Phase #4 - Figure out money situation and order "extras" (if possible). Extras include an AEM fuel rail/FPR/fuel filter*.

Phase #5 - Yank out old motor, clean as much as possible, sand/paint bay to a matte black color, dry, install new motor and hopefully not screw anything up. LOL

*Would going for an AEM high flow fuel filter benefit my set-up that much? Right now, I have blue OBX one that I got from trust, but I want something black such as OEM or the AEM one. OEM = ~$30, AEM = ~$100.

Also, here's a quick list of things I would like to have done before actually doing the swap:

Finish tucking wires, relocate coolant reservoir, finish spare VC I have, and (obviously) have the head/distributor situation taken care of. I will probably end up editing this to add to this list.

Oh noo bearing eater y8 crank, yuck. For fuel filter go with inline fuel filter, just have a braided line to the filter back to line then to the rail from right off the firewall, looks hot.

LOL.... the Toga oil pump should be able to handle what I am asking for. I cannot find a z6 block anywhere near me that isn't like $300+, so yea.

LOLwut? I am still exploring options with the fuel filter set-up and what I want it to be set-up as. We'll see what I can come up with.
