The flange where it bolts to the manifold got a little bit bent on one corner. Looks like it will need to machined flat.

I packaged it damn good. I wasn't planning on them throwing the package off a bridge or whatever the hell they did to it... especially since I wrote FRAGILE all over the f*cking package. I didn't insure the package, never had a problem in the past with USPS, out of the 100+ packages I have shipped so I didn't even think about it.

Just so everyone knows though, I have offered to split the machining costs with him, so if he gets it machined i'll be paying for half of it. He never asked for shipping insurance and I never even thought about doing it. It's technically neither of our fault (it's USPS' fault) but we're both involved so that's what i'm doing.

I sure won't be sending anything expensive without insurance anymore though. It's a shame that this couldn't have happened to a $5 item I shipped instead of it happening to something expensive like this.

I am contemplating going to the local USPS office though and bitching at them until they give me what I want. Our family business is the largest USPS account in our city (we ship the most packages), so I may have some leverage. I'll have to talk to my dad. He'll probably just tell me there's nothing I can do though.

It is ridiculous that I have to purchase shipping insurance to give myself any confidence that my package will not be thrown off of a cliff. And this isn't just USPS, it's all the major carriers. Shipping insurance is bullsh*t. What the f*ck ever happened to a thing called "good service"?

The package should be covered up to $100 regardless if you purchased insurance or not.

Express mail is automatically insured up to $100. Priority mail isn't.

The stickers say "damaged before arrival in North Little Rock", meaning my local USPS didn't do it.

I don't blame Stuart at all. I've bought stuff from him before and never had a problem. His packaging would have worked fine if someone hadn't sent it to New York to be dropped off the Empire State building first. How else do you tweak cast iron like that? USPS screwed this one up.

you know what i would do then..... get the measurements of weight of the box was, pack up another box that weighs that much and then ship it to him insured. then take back the first box with the insurance slip of the new box
thats still total crap how they do crap like that! i mean come on what are trucks driving over packages from time to time or something? luckely i havent had any usps damages myself yet but afew packages have been beat up. but ups and fedex has killed a few packages.
