Scott's Ek Build: Shaved and Tucked
Yea I'm really happy with how it looks, it is pretty much flawless looks wise. I went to the extent of using a dremel and wire attachments to completely clean the block prior to paint and polish everything up. And with the combination of shiney intake manifold and black fuel rails and stuff it looks amazing. And I've gone to every detail of polishing bolt heads and things like the vetc solenoid most people leave. I can't wait to see this in it. My car gets a lot of attention at shows with the stock single cam half painted and ugly as fawk, so once this motor is in I can't wait. Literaly just ordered my jumper harness, just need an ecu, axles, linkage, and trans which are proving to be be hard... well the trans that is.
I bet it will really be popular once done...a cf spark plug cover (sorry if that isnt it's actual name) is about all it's missing "aesthetic" wise ... and maybe a purple VC
That'd be a cool combo imo...

Got my $50 today to hold the HX wheels, nice profit off of those.
Got my box of oem stuff from work today as well as my Exedy clutch kit and F1 flywheel. At first glance the flywheel looks really nice, the teeth are machined into it instead of a pressed on ring like Fidanza.
My car was starting to overheat a little bit today, so I did the usual crank the heat up to bring it down. Looking in to why it happened and why my radiator fan doesn't kick in I realized I never had the fan plugged in... wow. As of right now it is spinning backwards but I am not going to deal with that until I pull the motor and stuff.
I put the new OEM timing belt on today. Spent more time getting the damn crank pulle bolt off than putting the belt on. I ended up putting a 4 foot pipe on the pulley holder I grabbed from work, and a 6 foot pipe on a ratchet to break it loose. I split my Snap On shallow 19mm socket trying to get it loose (1/2" dr chrome socket) so I used my impact 19mm instead and after much struggling and swearing it came free. Lucky me the Snap On guy comes to us tomorrow so warranty ftw.
Tomorrow I will get the intake manifold done - bolt up injectors and rail and stuff like that.

Found a trans! It is not a B16 trans, it's a gsr. After thinking about it I think a gsr trans is the smarter way to go. May not be super short gears but still short enough to work with the B16. 1st gears are identical, and 2nd is just slightly longer on the gsr, and 3rd is where you see more length in the gsr. Which is fine because 2nd gear will take you up to almost 70 in the gsr, and at the point someone should be winning... And I think I want to boost this motor next year, or possibly build an all motor b20 bottom end for it. Also with my free driving to school and my inability to go less than 80 mph on the freeway, I'd rather not sit in vtec on the freeway with the b16 trans.
So the trans I am looking at is out of a 94 gsr. The guy is pretty well known in our local Honda forum and many people back him up. He says he opened it up and cleaned it up inside and what not, guarentes no grinds and will fix any if they happen to show up. But he inspected the whole inside and said it looks good. He wants $350 obo, so I'll probably get it for 300. Might go Monday, he's like 45 min away and I'll make a mini road trip with a friend and go out and get it, and I'm off Monday so that works.

300 for a gsr trans with no grinds? heck ya man, sounds like a good deal. And if you do decide to boost it (which I think you should) I bet you'll be alot happier with the GSR tranny as opposed to the b16 tranny. Thats just what I hear anyways.
edit- I've been reading up lately on LS-T's and have pretty much decided thats the route I'd like to go with in my hatch. They're easy to find around here, and cheap as hell. I can get a set of forged pistons/rods on H-T for cheap, throw in some new bearings, new clutch and BAM! 350 hp no problem....

That tranny fell through. Guy sold it to a friend. I've decided on selling my car again. I've ran some numbers and got prices on stuff and how I can maximize the amount of money I get. I need to fix my starting problem (I have like 2 grounds so it cranks over ungodly slow, sounds like a race car lol) and my steering column. I don't feel like messing with the tranny leak. I may look for an oem axle but I'm not worried about it killing the value of the car being a small leak. All the suspension except the blox lower control arms will come off. I don't want the lca since they are worthless and trashed. I will take off the upper control arms, coilovers, struts, sway bar, and beaks bar and put it back to stock. I still have my upper control arms, have a guy at work with em1 springs, and a friend with struts off his em1. I will sell the beaks, uca, and kyb rear struts. My new project is going to be an eg hatch, I want to go down to obd1 and something lighter. So I will get new rear kyb's for the hatch and after I sell the old suspension off the ek, rebuy the same stuff for the eg. I think without the suspension and on steelies I could get at least 2800 for my car. I will also sell the b16, and for a profit of course. And I'll sell everything I have for it... Mounts, conversion harness, clutch and flywheel, and other stuff I have for the swap. I should get over $1500 there, I'm going to be able to get a good amount for the engine since it looks so good and I put so much new stuff in it. I'll sell be last of the ek stuff I have sitting around like my si spoiler too. In the end after selling the car (estimated 2800) and the swap and things I take off the car, I should have about $5k. All of that money would go in to building the hatch, all of it. Which is why this is so appealing, having the money sitting there ready to be all spent will be awesome. I did a general estimate on my build. Main plans are getting a shell, I'd like to get a cheap paint job champ white, full suspension like my car has (kyb, ground control, beaks bar, sway bar, blox camber kit, function7 lca, energy full bushings kit), x bar for the rear, and for the swap- one of my favorite motors, h22! I did a basic estimate on like the h22, and mounts, and shell, and suspension and stuff and it comes out to about $4k. So for $4000 I'd have a hatch that would have brand new suspension, clean body, I'd tuck and shave the bay again, and be really fast. I'm sick of having a slow car so this will be a more speed built car. I think I have my mind made up and am going to do this. Just need to fix my cara stuff and get stock ride height going on and hopefully sell it for a good price. And no I won't put the b16 in the hatch, not enough power!
