I'm pretty thrilled about finally getting this project finished. I've got all the parts in a box, ready to go for Saturday. I ordered an aftermarket OEM style header/cat for the engine... ugh, hate to move sideways instead of upgrade, but I want to do the exhaust right. So I'll save up and get the full exhaust I want when I can afford it.

Can't wait to get this mess done.

The next update will be the swap itself, most likely. I had to make a choice due to funding... I went with a Dorman OE replacement header/cat unit because I can't get the exhaust I want in time. It's all nice and shiny (and clean). The whole engine looks nice and clean as it is. (The throttle body is still grungy, but it's clean where it counts on the inside.)

It's all fleshed out and pretty much ready to go!

Got a big stack of parts and supplies to go with it for the swap.

Saturday... Can't wait!

That's my neighbor's EF. I'm trying to get him to join so he can make a project thread. He's got an 89 DX sedan that was missing lots of parts, looked like crap, etc. I'm helping him get it back in shape before I move. We've done a LOT of work but have no pics... He got new front brake pads and rotors, new lower ball joints, new passenger CV axle, and some misc parts yesterday. We put some front speakers in it (redneck style... I'm trying to break him of that habit.) We hit the junk yard and got the entire trunk carpet, speaker grilles, a lock mechanism, some random plastics, and a quarter panel extension. We are hopefully going back today to get the back seats (so he can have an LX folding back seat), front seats (I have to figure out how to get 90 EF seats to fit in an 89...), a few more trim pieces, the other quarter panel extension piece, and a few other random parts. We are trying to find an EF optional audio console so he can have a DIN cup holder added on (using danomatic93's life saving DIY). It sucks that EF's have no cup holders.

If anyone has any EF suggestions, let me know!

you'll be glad you went with the y8 throttle cable instead of keeping the y7. I kept my y7 for the first few months after the mini me, and when i picked up a y8 cable from the junkyard, I noticed I didnt have to put my foot up it's butt to make it move anymore.

The junk yard sucks. I found a pretty sizeable wasp nest in the door jam of a car today...

I didn't get stung, but those bastards swarmed and I ran, then tripped on a random wheel and my tools went flying. Broke my cheap walmart tool box. Luckily a friend was there to help me pick up all my tools. In the end, I lost my 7/16ths socket and my 6.5mm socket. Tore up my right knee and left elbow. And overall, after trips to both local junk yards, got like 3rd degree sunburn or something. Epic farmers tan.

Engine swap: Take Two.

Swap is set for Saturday at 8:30am. All day thing, probably. Then about 20 miles of hard break-in, then 1500 miles or so of more break in.

Fingers crossed.

For the past 3 weeks, I have been carefully plotting my mileage. The odometer is sitting at 139902 right now. My commute is 32 miles to work and back. I have to drive home today, then come back here tomorrow, then drive home tomorrow. That's 96 miles. That leaves me exactly 1.1 miles between my apartment and the dealership. So theoretically I'll be at 139999 when I roll up into the bay. Fingers crossed really hardcore on that one. It'll make it so much easier to keep track of the exact mileage on the new engine. (I'm so OCD...)
