DIY Section Overhaul Project

I thought it might be a good idea for us to start focusing on what we've all been talking about in other threads: overhauling the DIY section. This has been talked about over and over but no one is working together on it for real so I thought I'd start a thread here in the lounge so we can discuss what we need and start some action.

We'll need members and at least one mod/admin on board to volunteer to read through the DIY sections, see what we have, and make the actual changes. Some are outdated. Some have bad links. Some have no pictures anymore due to the forum software upgrade. Some threads don't even belong. Bottom line is this:

.:We need to know what DIYs are still usable in their current form.

.:We need to know what DIYs can be updated and we need to know who can/will update them.

.:We need to know what DIYs are now useless and need to be deleted completely.

.:We need links to junk threads that aren't DIYs and need to be removed from the subforums.

.:We need new tags for threads that don't have tags so the DIYs can be searched for.

Post what you find in this thread and I will edit the first post to reflect what's been done and what hasn't. If a mod or admin volunteers to help, they of course can edit this thread themselves. If you come across a DIY that isn't in the DIY section, post it here so we can move it/fix it.

Also, to anyone who sees this: any ideas for other DIY sections? I feel like there's some DIYs that don't really belong in any of the sections we have.

Maybe something like:
Exterior
Interior
Drivetrain
Suspension
Engine
Detailing/Paint

or something like that.

Good ideas. I could see a whole section for suspension because there's so much more to a suspension swap than just shocks and springs. There's a whole geometry to adjust.

Exterior and Interior are pretty much good.

Engine should cover a lot.

Detailing/paint could cover both interior and exterior because we have DIYs on painting both interior and exterior parts. Should we call it something like Detailing/Paint Care? or do we want painting DIYs to stay with paint regardless of whether it's interior or exterior?

Also, why are the DIY section and Product Review section formatted differently? That makes no sense to me. Look at the main page and you'll see what I mean.

That's exactly what I was saying over in the other thread (before I knew that this one was around)

I think we should definitely have a specific tag(s) that people could use to easily search for all DIYs. Something along the lines of "DIY, How to, Install guide". Also, I think we need to have a format for the DIY guides.

For example...
"How to: <what's being done>. By: <name of user>", or
"DIY: <what's being done>. By: <name of user>"

Edit: WellFedHobo, you can update that first post in this thread to say "(cvcrcr)" next to the "96-00 Civic HX, DX, LX, EX, Si Headlight Bulb Install", and "How to install a lip kit". I'll go ahead and re-do them entirely. Reaper can go ahead and delete once I remake them, I'll PM him when that's done. I should be able to do it soon.

Edit #2: J/w, Wellfedhobo, have you only gone through the exterior DIYs, correct? Once you go through let us know about the others that need to be fixed/updated, I'll definitely sign up for more to re-do/update.

It should be a sticky in the Gen. Tech. section in addition to being in the DIY section. Maybe we should create a section under DIY for "Troubleshooting"?

Unfortunately, DIY is 3 letters and we can't search for anything less than 4...

No problem. I would rather just have a clean slate to start with, that's why I would rather go ahead and re-make them entirely.

I'll have to pass on that right now. I have no problem re-making anything that needs to be, but I am no good at proofing, or thinking about how things could be made better. LOL
